Here are printable materials and some
suggestions to present letter E (short sound). The presentation
ideally should be part of elephant
theme activities which includes animal facts, and various other
printable activities.
Alphabet Activity >
Letter E is for Elephant
Present and display your option of alphabet printable
materials listed in the materials column.
*Review fun facts about elephants:
Include a short review about fun facts about elephants using the flash
cards and you may want to later include an activity to assemble a
mini-book with the coloring
version.
Other activities can be found in the elephant section (online
puzzles and suggested literature).
The activity can be enhanced
by using the matching
elephant paper bag puppet as a learning helper and
"assistant."
* Finger and Handwriting Tracing:
*Trace letter E's in upper and lower case with your index finger as you also sound out the
letter. Invite the children to do the same on their coloring
page or tracer. Encourage the children to trace the dotted letter
with your choice of sharpened crayon, fine tip marker, coloring or regular pencil
and explain the direction of the arrows and point to the numbers with arrows that help them trace the
letter correctly. During the demonstration, you may want
to count out loud as you trace so children become aware of how the
number order aids them in the writing process.
*Find the letter E's: Have the children find all the
letter E's in upper and lower case on the coloring page or extended
tracer and encourage them to circle
or trace/shade them first. Visit each child to make sure they
have identified the letter E's and then discuss the locations with the poster.
Coloring and/or Craft Activity: Encourage the
children to color the elephant image with a variety of materials.
Letter E words: Letter
E Activity Worksheet Program This activity worksheet can be used as part of Letter
E program of activities
to reinforce letter practice and to identify related E words. Read suggested instructions for using the worksheet
and mini-book.
Focus on the short E sound:
First 'brainstorm' and
ask the children about other words that have that beginning sound and
write them on a board (dry erase board) as the children come up with
examples. You can print letter 'e' in a different bright color to
make it stand out. If you have illustrated alphabet books you
can also use images in them. You can also display letter posters and
coloring pages or even make a letter E classroom book. For

E Printable Materials.
Letter E Word
Search & Handwriting Practice
The four word search game features an elephant and letter E words
with pictures and handwriting practice.
For advanced independent handwriting practice:
1. Print your choice of printable
lined-paper and encourage children to draw an elephant behind
the page or print an elephant coloring page.
2. Drawing
and writing paper Encourage children to draw and color an
eel and
write letter E e. Share some images of a real elephant to inspire the children.
