Consonant Digraph: Sh is for Shoes Nursery Rhymes > There was an old woman who lived in a shoe Online story time > Fairy tales > The Elves and the Shoemaker
Here are printable materials and some
suggestions to present consonant digraph Sh with the topic of shoes. |
Level: Kindergarten and first grade after the basic alphabet sounds have been mastered. Shoes theme lesson plan activities: 1. Nursery rhyme: There was an old woman who lived in a shoe This nursery rhyme lesson plan incorporates various activities with shoes: why do we wear shoes?, match the shoe to activity worksheet, counting, sorting shoes and more. 2. Fairy Tales: The Shoemaker and the Elves This lesson plan includes printable coloring storybook and a shoe lacing activity. Consonant Sh Digraph Presentation: Explain that when letter 'S' and 'h' "tag along together" they make the Sh sound. Invite children to make the sound. *Find the Sh sound: Have the children find all the Sh's in upper and lower case on the worksheet and encourage them to circle or trace/shade them first. Visit each child to make sure they have identified the digraph Sh's and then discuss the locations with the poster. * Finger and Pencil Tracing: Trace the Sh's in upper and lower case with your finger as you also sound out the digraph. Invite the children to do the same on their coloring page (first presentation) or handwriting practice worksheet. Encourage the children to trace the dotted letters with your choice of sharpened crayon, fine tip marker, coloring or regular pencil and demonstrate the direction of the arrows and numbers that help them trace the letter correctly. During the demonstration, you may want to count out loud as you trace so children become aware of how the number order aids them in the writing process.
