Reading and singing the Nursery Rhyme - Pat-A-Cake
Print or read from the screen the Nursery Rhyme Poster - Pat-A-Cake.  Visit this link for the finger play demonstration and  music and lyrics to create excitement and motivation.  Discuss the image with the children.  Ask them what do they see happening.  Can they recognize the baker?  Make sure to do a finger/hand play demonstration of the nursery rhyme first.  Mimic placing the cake inside an oven and patting the hand, tracing letter B in the palm of the hand or the child's first name initial and say the child's name in the rhyme text.

Repeat the rhyme slowly and the children can repeat by verse.

Note:  Children under 2 will benefit greatly from singing, using puppets, stuffed animals, and/or finger plays with nursery rhymes.

This nursery rhyme is particularly effective for children to learn the first letter of their name.

Coloring Page Activities:
Here are coloring pages to incorporate or send home as "home fun projects" and for parents at home to have activities over the weekend too!  Make sure to provide a variety of coloring and painting materials as well as methods to decorate the pages.
