Triceratops Dinosaur Paper Craft and Printable Activities

Triceeratops Dinosaur Paper Craft and Printable Activities

Materials:

  • printer
  • paper or card stock to print the template
  • paper or construction paper in contrasting color for the background
  • coloring tools
  • scissors
  • glue or glue stick
  • Optional: brass paper fasteners for movable legs and head

Get kids ready to rumble and create their very own three-horned friend, the amazing Triceratops, a dinosaur that loved to munch on plants and had a super-strong frill to protect its neck! Imagine what exciting adventures kids and their Triceratops paper pal could have together – maybe they could even teach it to play hide-and-seek!

This craft and related educational activities are appropriate for toddlers, preschool and elementary grades.

Printing Options:

Color option: Ideal for toddlers to concentrate on assembly and identifying colors. Provide cut up paper in complimentary colors to create a mosaic on the body, or round stickers.

Black & White: The B&W option is best for all ages, to color, paint, decorate and scissor cutting practice. Print directly to color paper, green or other fun color.

Instructions:

Assembly and learning activities: (after template is cutout and decorated)

Discuss the colors: Count the templates out loud.

Prepare and provide additional accessories to decorate the craft: cut up paper, round stickers, etc. This is good opportunity to use left over color or construction paper.

Assembly:

  1. Allow the children to play with the pieces and assemble them like a puzzle without gluing, and point to the small picture found on the template for guidance.
  2. Assemble with brass fasteners: An adult handles assembly for this method, matching the markings on the craft. The head is attached by using a fastener through the eye.
  3. Assembly with glue: Apply glue to the body marking for the head, and glue the head. Apply glue to the markings on the legs, slide under the body and press in place.
  4. Optional: Write T t Triceratops in the back of the craft, or later when assembling a landscape.

Other ideas for the craft:

  • Create a collage or landscape by placing the decorated craft in its environment: a simple painted or cut out volcano in a blue background and green strips of painted or cut up paper to create the vegetation they would eat.
