ABOUT PELICANS:
  1. Super Scoopers: Pelicans are giant birds with incredible beaks that have a stretchy pouch underneath. They use this pouch like a giant net to scoop up yummy fish from the water – like a feathered fishing net!
  2. Salty Seabirds: Unlike ducks who like both land and water, pelicans are true seabirds! They spend most of their time soaring over the ocean waves, looking for their next fishy feast.
  3. Louisiana's Feathery Friend: The brown pelican is extra special because it's the official bird of the state of Louisiana! That's why Louisiana is nicknamed "The Pelican State." Can you imagine seeing a giant pelican flying over a swamp?
  4. Diving Daredevils: Pelicans are super brave when it comes to catching fish. They can dive headfirst from way up in the sky, plunging into the water to snatch a fish in their beak. They're like underwater superheroes!
  5. Nesting Neighbors: Pelicans like to live together in big groups called colonies. They build their nests on high places near water, like islands or cliffs. Baby pelicans are born without feathers and are fed yummy fish by their parents.
