ABOUT OKAPIS:
Imagine a mix between a giraffe and a zebra! That's kind of what an okapi looks like.
- They're about the size of a big horse, with a long neck but not quite as long as a giraffe's.
- Their fur is mostly a chocolate brown, but their legs have black and white stripes just like a zebra!
- These stripes help them hide in the tall rainforest grasses where they live.
- They have big, floppy ears that can hear even the smallest noises.
- And like their cousin the giraffe, okapis have a long, purple tongue they use to grab leaves from tall trees. Their tongue is so long, they can even lick their own ears!
Okapis are shy animals that live in the forests of Africa. They are vegetarians and love to munch on leaves, fruits, and even some flowers.
