Animals > Mammals > Domesticated > Llama
The llama is a domesticated pack animal of the camel family found in the Andes in Peru, valued for its soft woolly fleece. The word llama also refers to the wool, yarn and cloth made from the wool of the llama. Llamas are often creamy off white, brown, or piebald (irregular patches of color).
Other Lamoids (llama group) are the domesticated alpaca, the guanaco and vicuna that live in the wild. The baby animal or juvenile for Lamoids is called a cria (a word of baby animal in Spanish). Llamas, when trained properly, are very pleasant to be around, and they are getting certified as therapy animals for nursing homes and hospitals.
