An umbrella is a collapsible canopy to protect people from the sun and rain. When used for sun protection it is also called a parasol. The collapsible umbrella is a Chinese invention.

Alphabet Activities:

Present the letter U Umbrella six-piece online jigsaw puzzle to practice problem solving and view letter U in upper and lower case.

Children Age 4 and under:

Print this toddler coloring page with large bubble font, color, paint and decorate or,

Print a letter U coloring page and an umbrella coloring page behind it or on a separate page if using paints to decorate later. Discuss other letter U words - view this worksheet for ideas.

Finger Tracing: Trace letter U's in upper and lower case with your finger as you also sound out the letter. Invite the children to do the same on their coloring page. Write the word umbrella on the coloring page.

Handwriting worksheet tips:

Encourage the children to trace the dotted letter, and explain the direction of the arrows and numbers that help them trace the letter correctly.

During the demonstration, you may want to count out loud as you trace so children become aware of how the number order aids them in the writing process.

Have the children find all the letter U's in upper and lower case on the page and encourage them to circle them.
