The xylophone is a percussion instrument, and it is often one of the first musical instruments that young children get to explore as a colorful toy. Explore the xylophone activities and printable craft for opportunities have fun with music, shapes and colors.
Alphabet Activities:
Children Age 3 and under: Print a letter a letter X and a xylophone coloring page behind it or on a separate page if using paints to decorate later. Discuss other letter X words found on the worksheet. Finger Tracing: Trace letter X's in upper and lower case with your finger as you also sound out the letter. Invite the children to do the same on their coloring page. Children can trace and color the letter X's. After coloring the letter, encourage children to color the image and write the word xylophone on the finished coloring page. Handwriting worksheet tips: Encourage the children to trace the dotted letter, and explain the direction of the arrows and numbers that help them trace the letter correctly. During the demonstration, you may want to count out loud as you trace so children become aware of how the number order aids them in the writing process. Have the children find all the letter X's in upper and lower case on the page and encourage them to circle them. Children ages 3+: Letter X words: Letter X Worksheet Program and Mini-Book can be used as part of program of activities to reinforce letter practice and to identify related words. Read suggested instructions for using the worksheet and mini-book. You can also display letter posters and coloring pages or make a letter X home or classroom book. Other learning activities with the color poster: 1. Color Practice: The poster features a xylophone featuring primary and secondary colors. This is a fun opportunity to practice color recognition. Point to the colors and encourage children to name the color and a favorite object or thing in that color. 2. Counting/Numbers: Count each color section in the xylophone and/or print the numbers in each section.
