Walruses are mammals that live in shallow waters in and around the Arctic - VERY COLD! (show this area in a map/atlas or globe).

They bask in large herds on pack ice there.

Walruses are tan to light brown.

Walruses use their tusks and whiskers to search the seafloor for shellfish. They suck clams out of the shells without even breaking them open!

They have layers of fat, called blubber, under their skin to help keep warm in freezing weather.

Males make strange, bell-like sounds under the water to attract mates.
