Activity > Presenting the rhyme:
"Wee Willie Winkie" is an Scottish nursery rhyme and the titular character has become a personification of sleep. The poem was written by William Miller, tilled "Willie Winkie" published in 1841in the Scots language.The most common text of the first stanza in English:
Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town,
Up stairs and down stairs in his night-gown,
Tapping at the window, crying at the lock,
Are the children in their bed, for it's past ten o'clock?
Print, present read and sing from the screen, with the nursery rhyme poster and review the selected YouTube video. Adapt for the time frame you wish to emphasize; the poem states ten o'clock and the video shows eight o'clock.

Children under age 2 and older will benefit greatly from singing, using puppets, stuffed animals, and/or finger plays with nursery rhymes. |
