TINY FLYERS, BIG WONDERS!:
  • Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world. The smallest hummingbird is the Bee Hummingbird, which is 2–5 inches long.
  • Hummingbirds get their name from the humming sound their wings make when they beat so fast.
  • Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly upside down and backwards.
  • Hummingbirds mainly feed on nectar, a sweet liquid made by flowers.
  • Hummingbirds are migratory, they travel to find better and habitats for feeding, breeding, and raising their young.
  • Hummingbirds are pollinators, this means they carry pollen from flower to flower, which helps the plant to reproduce.
  • Safe hummingbird food: Mix 1 part sugar with 4 parts water (for example, 1 cup of sugar with 4 cups of water) until the sugar is dissolved. Don't add coloring. Fill a feeder, save the rest in the fridge. Clean and refill the feeder every couple of days.
