ABOUT FERRETS:
  • Ferrets are domesticated carnivorous mammals that are part of the Mustelidae family (or mustelids), along with the weasels, otters, badgers, mink, wolverines and the black-footed ferret which live in the wild.
  • Ferrets are affectionate and can bond with their owners, making them fun and lovable pets.
  • Ferrets are quiet much of the day and tend to sleep a lot, but can be very playful at other times of the day, particularly during twilight hours.
  • Ferrets need a surprising amount of space, whether you're keeping them in the home or in an enclosure outside.
  • The only ferret in the wild is the black-footed ferret and is found mostly in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. These are endangered and an estimate of 300 may be scattered in a dozen sites in the United States.
