MOOSE: Meet the Forest Giants!
  • Super Swimmers: Moose are amazing in the water! They can swim for miles without stopping and can even stay underwater for about 30 seconds to snack on yummy plants at the bottom of a lake.
  • Fast Learners: A baby moose (called a calf) is a quick learner. Just five days after being born, it can already run faster than a grown-up human!
  • Heavy Crowns: Only the dads grow antlers, and they are huge! A moose can shed its antlers every winter and grow a brand-new, even bigger pair by the next summer.
  • Built-in Snowshoes: Moose have very large, wide hooves. These act like natural snowshoes, helping them walk across deep snow and muddy bogs without sinking.
  • Mega Appetites: These big guys are hungry! A moose can eat up to 70 pounds of food—mostly leaves, twigs, and water plants—in just one single day.
  • Masters of the Tundra: Even though the tundra is very cold and doesn't have many big trees, moose love it there! They have thick, hollow fur that acts like a heavy winter coat, keeping them warm and cozy even when the ground is frozen and the wind is blowing.
