The Two Goats
Once upon a time, two lively goats were playing on opposite sides of a tall mountain. They skipped and jumped over rocks, having the best day ever! But then, they both came to a deep, rushing river. The only way to cross was a skinny log stretched from one side to the other. It was so narrow, even two squirrels couldn’t pass each other on it!
One goat stepped onto the log from her side. The other goat did the same from his side. They walked carefully toward the middle... and then—uh-oh! They bumped heads! “Move aside!” said one goat. “No, you move!” said the other.
They both wanted to be first. Neither wanted to back up. So they pushed and shoved with their horns. But the log was too narrow, and the river below was too strong. Splash! Both goats fell into the water and were swept away by the rushing stream. The mountain was quiet again.
Sometimes it’s better to take a step back than to be too stubborn.
Being kind and letting others go first can keep everyone safe.
