Activity > Presenting the rhyme:
"Hickory Dickory Dock" is an English language nursery rhyme and its first publication in English appears in 1744.This is the most common text, and it is repeated one o'clock until twelve o'clock:
Hickory dickory dock.
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down,
Hickory dickory dock.
Print, present read and sing from the screen, with the nursery rhyme poster and review the selected YouTube video.

Children under age 2 and older will benefit greatly from singing, using puppets, stuffed animals, and/or finger plays with nursery rhymes. |

Legend has it that the Exeter Cathedral Astronomical Clock, located in Devon, UK is the inspiration for this rhyme, and that a small round hole at the bottom was for a cat to have access to hunt for mice and rats. |
Activity > Numbers and Telling Time: This rhyme offers the opportunity to learn and practice numbers and also the concept of telling time. For the youngest kids is probably best to focus on recognizing the numerals, and for older children to focus on the concept of telling time in an analog or digital clock. Review the numbers coloring pages and worksheets. |
