The Dove and the Ant
One sunny day, a little ant was walking near a bubbling stream. She slipped on a wet leaf and tumbled into the water! “Oh no!” cried the ant. “Help! I can’t swim!” Up in a tree nearby, a kind dove saw the ant struggling. The dove quickly plucked a big leaf and dropped it into the stream, right next to the ant. The ant climbed onto the leaf. “Phew!” she said, holding on tight. The leaf floated gently to the shore, and the ant was safe. “Thank you, Dove!” the ant called up. “You saved my life!”
A few days later, the dove was resting on a branch. She didn’t see a man sneaking up with a rock in his hand. He wanted to catch the dove! But the ant saw him. “Oh no!” she whispered. “I must help my friend!” She ran up and gave the man a tiny sting on his foot. “Ouch!” he shouted, dropping the rock. The noise scared the dove, and she flew away to safety.
The ant smiled. “Helping friends is always the right thing to do,” she said.
A kindness is never wasted.
